About VATSIM

Virtual Air Traffic Flight Simulation Network (VATSIM) is a world-wide network Simulating realistic Air Traffic environment for Flight Simulator users. VATSIM members can participate in the network's activities as pilots and as Air Traffic Controllers.

In it's pursuit of creating the most realistic ATC environment, VATSIM is divided to regions and divisions. Each Division is responsible for it's airspace. The division trains controllers, provides aeronautical data, coordinates events and conducts all activities in it's virtual airspace.

About VATIL

VATIL is the Israeli virtual air traffic control division of VATSIM.

VATIL's roll and purpose is to supply the Israeli FIR with virtual ATC services and to train new and veteran controllers for the variety of ATC positions in the Israeli FIR.

But this is not the only roll VATIL fulfils. The VATIL community and staff are doing more than just that. VATIL controllers made their name in VATSIM community for their controlling skills. VATIL is regarded as one of the best ATC organizations in VATSIM - but that's not all.

The VATIL community is also known for the services to community and liaisons with real world organizations such as ELAL Israel Airlines. Over the last two year, VATIL contributed to the Schneider children hospital in Petach Tikva. The volunteers, supported by Microsoft Israel, installed a flight simulator station in the hospital for the children.

VATIL also arranged some tours to ELAL facilities and to the coordination tower. These were fascinating tours which took the participants to restricted areas, not usually accessible such as the aerial grounds, ELAL maintenances facilities. We walked really close to the runways and had the possibility to almost touch the dream (The captain's yoke).

VATIL's control room events brake new records each time - by the amount of traffic the controllers has to deal with, but also to the ingenuity of Amir (vatil3). In the last VATIL's control room event, Amir arranged one dark room for the Approach and Tel Aviv control radar services and in another room he created the the tower booth with screen projector for the controllers to see and feel like they were in the Ben Gurion control tower.

VATIL holds a yearly convention where guests from the world of aviation lecture on various subjects. Last year we had captain Ilan Margalit, an ELAL 737NG captain. The lecture was about his last flight from Ben Gurion to Milan airport.
VATIL members overwhelmed Ilan with nonstop questions about flying the Boeing 737NG.

The community also visited, thanks to the help of VATIL member Zvi Rodes, in the Technion's Aeronautical Labs. The Technion is one of the worlds renown academic centers in the world, and this tour has been one of the most intriguing tours we had.

The crown jewel of VATIL's activities is the cooperation between ELAL and VATIL.
VATIL has recently participated in ELAL's 737NG F/O Course.
Some of VATIL's members, hosted ELAL's trainees and instructors in their homes to fly an online flight from Ben Gurion to Larnaka with full ATC coverage.
VATIL's staff presented ELAL with the 767-300 by Level D & the Queen of the sky the 747-400 by PMDG.

You can be sure that there will be more to come on this collaboration.
